Liberty Expose: Supporters Of Pamela Price Argue Agents Her Recall

Samantha Laurey

With the attempted recall of Pamela Price underway, it’s important to examine the arguments and points of her supporters. That way, not only can we gain better contacts over the situation, but we will also be able to counter their claims with our own responses.

As conservatives, they will see a familiarity with the tactics used to discredit the attempted recall of Pamela Price.

The arguments made in defense of Price as a district attorney are similar in vain to how the left attempts to reframe their own arguments. First, Pamela Price has enacted many policies that have helped the people of Alameda, and second, the purpose of the outrage is based on ulterior motives.

Prices Supporters

A video has emerged showing Price's supporters defending her actions and fighting against the recall efforts. At a town hall, she gave a speech about the importance of being the first black, female district attorney for Alameda County.

One of her supporters, a victim's mother who lost her son in 2018, supports the efforts of Pamela Price.

"This is the first time ever in five years that I've spoken to someone who is concerned about what exactly is going on and is trying to find the person who murdered my son and hold them accountable. "I respect her for that; I respect her work.”

Pamela Price does in fact have a large amount of supporters that are fighting against her recall efforts and are of the opinion that her position as district attorney has provided a safe and just environment.

Policy Arguments

Pamela Price’s supporters will disagree with the argument that she has been either lax on criminal convictions or has made Alameda a more unsafe place. Protect the Win is a group of supporters who backed the recall efforts of District Attorney Price.

They list her accomplishments as a district attorney as prosecuting 7,610 cases, including 58 murders and 2,381 felonies and hiring more than 120 new staff, including attorneys, victim advocates, felony trial teams, and mental health services workers. This also included expanding their budget by $95 million. All of which is done in just a year of being in office.

This argument tackles one of our biggest criticisms, which is her lack of commitment to keeping Alameda County safe. By proving that she has done a wide variety of things, it can be argued that she is unsympathetic. The reality that Price is facing, however, is the fact that her focus on criminal justice reform has not deterred further crime in the county. This inevitably leads to an excess of crime, which the community must suffer through.

The argument that Pamela Price makes is that she was purposefully elected to an act change push for criminal justice reform. increased the total number of advocates for victims and created a Community Support Bureau and Public Accountability Bureau. In her eyes, she is only fulfilling the campaign promises she made before she was elected.

Ulterior Motives

Pamela Price Campaign is also taking the initiative, which I attribute to the attempted recall of her from her position for an external purpose.

Aside from her initial claims that this recall attempt is based on her race and gender, she points to a series of leak files that her campaign believes prove that there is a potential profit motive behind the recall attempt. Twelve pages of this fundraising document were leaked to her supporters and explain that several large businesses have “had significant negative impacts on both their portfolio valuations as well as the personal safety of their employees and families." These few documents were the little piece for Pamela Price in her campaign, to cling onto as a way of discrediting the entire attempt to remove her as district attorney of Alameda County.

This evidence made Pamela Price speak out at a town hall, calling the whole process of her recall undemocratic. The spokesperson for Pamela Price's campaign efforts, William Fitzgerald, defends her statement that this recall is “anti-democratic” by saying

“She is fighting every day for the safety of the people of Alameda County. For her, nothing is more important than right now to ensure the sanctity of democracy in Alameda County is maintained."

This tactic has been employed very often in the last year; it states that an election will determine the state of democracy in the country. These claims given by any person are utter nonsense. The purpose of a recall is to use the democratic process to remove somebody from office through the votes of the public. That, in actuality, is using democracy to its fullest. This argument attempts to invoke fear into thinking that this election spells the end of our country and our way of life. Neither of these is true.

There is a complexity that comes when you are involved in the criminal justice system and handling public opinion. This is an attempt to juggle the philosophy that the criminal justice system is built on racial discrimination. If that is your foremost goal, you will inevitably fail to charge criminals effectively or judge people differently based on their race. The whole purpose of the judicial system is that it is supposed to be color-blind, but by thinking you have to reform that, you fail to uphold that sacred standard.

Conclusion

The argument in support of Pamela Price is constantly fighting against the recall efforts that are likely to continue in the next several months. She has proven that she has support from a wide range of people, and she attempts to point to her record of achievements to fight against the accusations that she has done nothing for the community. It is yet to be determined whether the support in favor of Price will be enough to quell the overwhelming storm of those in favor of removing her from office.
